Collaborative Workshop on Best Practices in the Writing-Intensive Classroom In-Person
Spalding is going “writing-intensive” with its Quality Enhancement Plan, but what exactly does that mean for your classroom practice? And, what are the benefits of focusing on the writing process beyond simply requiring “more writing”?
This workshop will marshal expertise from the QEP team and faculty who have taught writing-intensive courses at Spalding during AY 2017-18 in order to take a hard look at their successes and the challenges they have faced in getting students to engage in the writing process. Topics will include the use of "Writing to Learn" techniques, scaffolded assignment design to support student learning outcomes, peer review facilitation, and encouraging meaningful revision. Participants should bring a draft of an assignment they currently use in the classroom that they would like to workshop with their peers. This workshop is recommended for all instructors teaching QEP-designated writing intensive courses but is open to all faculty.
Light breakfast served; Free Lunch Friday
Reservations required.
