Problem-based learning (PBL) is a research-supported best teaching practice that has been consistently shown to improve instruction as measured by increased student learning.  More specifically, PBL can increase students’ long-term memory of content, improve performance on high-stakes assignments, increase problem solving skills, and strengthen collaboration skills (Vega, 2012).  PBL accomplishes these lofty goals through increasing student engagement, motivation, and participation by using authentic, real-world problems.

Join Dr. Dede Wohlfarth (Psychology) as she addresses the following PBL outcomes: 1) Identify the key components and benefits of PBL; 2) Experience first-hand and then explain to others how motivating and engaging it is to participate in a PBL activity; 3) Apply PBL concepts to courses across a wide variety of disciplines, including those they teach.
